Hvad er SQL 2016?

SQL er en forkortelse for Structured Query Language, og er altså et “query language”. Med SQL skriver man queries, der blandt andet anvendes til at:

  • Skabe query skemaer
  • Opbevaring, manipulering og importering af data fra en relationel database

 

SQL 2016 blev udviklet af Donald D. Chamberlin og Raymond F. Boyce fra IBM tilbage i 70’erne. Sproget er blevet en branchestandard inden for arbejde med databaser.

Man skelner yderligere mellem 4 slags sub-sprog under SQL:

  1. DDL (Data Definition Language)
  2. DML (Data Manipulation Language)
  3. DCL (Data Control Language)
  4. TCL (Transaction Control Language)

Hvad er MS SQL Server?

Hvor SQL 2016 er et sprog, er MS SQL Server et “Relational Database Management System” (RDBMS).

MS SQL Server er altså en relationel database, hvor man opbevarer data og eksekverer SQL kommandoer, der så er skrevet med SQL 2016.

MS SQL Server er udviklet af Microsoft i 1989, og er udviklet i C og C++. Der anvendes en bestemt form for SQL, der nærmere bestemt hedder T-SQL (Transact-SQL).

Der findes også andre RDBMS, såsom Oracle og DB2.
